It was pouring like crazy, and a stranger rushed over with his umbrella to help.
He walks me to the tram and tells me his story. How he came here from sunny Egypt and works in cybersecurity support at an international bank. How he lived in Olomouc and in Ostrava. Funnily enough, he studied history at an Egyptian university, and now he works in cybersecurity.
Ever since I started recording my podcast Na vlnách změny, these kind, unexpected encounters have been happening to me more and more often. Unknown faces get their stories in a few minutes of walking, sitting on a tram, waiting for a pastry at the bakery.
In my podcast Na vlnách změny (On the Waves of Change), I give a voice to people nobody knows yet, so that others can hear the quiet ones too, the ones who have so much to say.
So far, the podcast holds nine beautiful stories. For example:
- Markéta Hniličková: Why do children need present parents rather than perfect ones? Why do children need boundaries?
- Aleš Muselík: Why does “I have to” kill your life? How do you look at your life through four quadrants?
- Petra Kovandová: All it takes is one angry person and your photos from social media. Do you know what they can turn into within minutes? What happens to your identity after you die?
- Tetiana Novosel: What kept her going through every shift at the factory? How do you build your dream in a foreign country?
- Anna Homola: Why does she stop strangers in the street? What is it like to move from ballet to fashion design?
- Nela Mizera: Why will the word “problem” never have a place in her vocabulary, and why did she write the book Mizerná nejen artritida?
- Stanislav Věchet: Why isn’t a man who builds robots afraid of the age of the Terminator? And what does he really fear in today’s age of AI?
- Tomáš Janík: Why do some people never get cancer, even after 80 cigarettes a day? How does a new drug actually reach us?
- Nikki Madi: How does she help people who were once told they have no ear for music? How is teaching music to adults different from teaching children?
Who will you visit first? You’ll find all the episodes here. The episodes are in Czech.
Every face tells a story. Even the quiet ones.
